Structured Literacy Follow Up Training

The new HMH Structured Literacy Lessons take research-based practices and put them into practical application in the K-2 classroom. Based on feedback from teachers, these new lessons now align more closely with the Science of Reading and provide teachers with explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, spelling (encoding), fluency, and handwriting. In this follow-up training, we will take a closer look at the lesson components and how to implement them effectively in the 90-minute block. (Training will last from 30-45 minutes)*This training meets HB 7069 requirements for recertification

Maximizing Your Whole Group Reading Lessons in the 90-Minute Block

In this session we will use “backwards planning” to prioritize the components of the HMH curriculum. We will take a closer look at the materials and resources available for Reading and Vocabulary instruction and discuss best practices for implementing. (Training will last approximately 30-45 minutes)

UFLI Follow Up Training

UFLI is an explicit, systematic phonics program developed by the University of Florida Literacy Institute to introduce students to the foundational skills necessary for proficient reading. This training will take a closer look at the components and implementation of each lesson step and will serve as a follow up to the initial training that has been delivered at your school sites. (This training will take approximately 1 hour)*This training meets HB 7069 requirements for recertification


Taking a Closer Look at Small Group Differentiated Instruction in the 90-Minute Block

Small group instruction during the 90-minute block should supplement and reinforce the initial reading instruction that takes place in Tier 1. In this training, we will focus on how to differentiate instruction in small, flexible groups to ensure students have the opportunity to access the curriculum and core content. (Training will last from 30-45 minutes) *Coming in January 2024.

Secondary Workshops Offered

Act Training

The ACT bootcamp training is best suited for teachers of upperclassmen.  This unique training is designed to equip ELA/Reading teachers with resources to better tackle instruction of the English and Reading component of the ACT.  In this training, teachers will learn basic test taking strategies to use with students. This training can be delivered in roughly 30 minutes, but if you have a different idea in mind, please let us know.


Progress Learning

This Workshop Wednesday session is designed to better prepare teachers to utilize the features within the progress learning platform.  Due to the digital component of this training, the format is best suited in person with available devices.  During the training, teachers will explore the instructional resources in the platform such as (bell ringers, class activities, and videos).  In addition, teachers will learn to create individual assessments and explore Study Plan and/or Lift Off.  This training can be delivered in roughly 45 minutes, but if you have a different idea in mind, please let us know.


Newsela

This training is designed to assist teachers in using Newsela as a Tier 2 resource within the ELA classroom.  Due to the digital component of this training, the format is best suited in person with available devices.  From this training, teachers will walk away with a working knowledge of how to create an assignment within the platform, how to differentiate content for various reading levels/groups, and how to explore a text set to supplement a unit of learning within the Savvas curriculum. This training can be delivered in roughly 45 minutes, but if you have a different idea in mind, please let us know.


Savvas Resources

This training is designed to assist teachers in using the Realize e-text/ platform to deepen engagement in the ELA classroom. The training will explore the use of various tools within the digital curriculum as well as the print-based resources. Specifically, the training will explore the use of Exit Tickets, the hook and inspire resources, and the various video components available.   This training can be delivered in roughly 45 minutes, but if you have a different idea in mind, please let us know. If teachers are already familiar with the resources, we can also tailor the training to specifically requested items of interest.
